Touring the popular tourist destination

Visited the popular sites in Bath: the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, the Royal Crescent, the Circus and the Fashion Museum. Took a side trip to Stonehenge and tried scrumpy at a local pub.

Dilton Marsh

First stop on UK trip

My first stop on arriving in England was in the quaint little town of Dilton Marsh near Bath. (When I asked the ticket seller at Gatwick for a rail ticket to Dilton Marsh, he replied, "Where's that!") I stayed there because is cheaper than Bath but only a short train ride away. I stayed in a nice B&B called Angel Cottage (unfortunately, now closed). Pat and Vince were great hosts and cooked up a delicious full English. The also set out a dinner setting for me when I arrived late and picked up a fish & chip take-away from Ocean Fish & Chips nearby. (The best fish & chips I have ever had.)
The rail platform there is a "request stop." This means that to get of the train you ask the conductor to stop there because it is not a regular stop. If you want to catch the train from there, you stand on the platform and put out your arm as if hailing a taxicab - and the train stops for you. So strange to hail a train!

Railway all the way

Planned a trip by rail to some points of interest - to me - starting in Bath, then Penzance, visiting a friend near Shrewsbury, Conwy Castle, Portmerion, the Lake District, Edinburgh, York and finally London.
